As dog owners, we know vet visits are not at the top of our dog's favourite recreational activities. But we also accept the fact that at some point in their lifetime they will need to have veterinary treatment.

When puppies come into the vets, it is often a very different story. They are wiggly bundles from tongue to tail. Happy to see and be a part of everything.

What if all vet visits could be like the first puppy ones? Waggy tails in the consult room, quicker treatments (in turn, quicker seen times) and all the staff fighting over who gets to cuddle your dog next.

The possibility is there. With every dog.

Having worked in practice for many years I know what it is like on the other side of those vet consult doors. I know the treatments, surgeries and what the vet/patient relationship is like. This is why we have teamed up with Pet Doctors to be their only recommended canine behaviourist and trainer. We both believe that the vets shouldn't be a scary place. Its a place for help, for healing and for happiness.

Veterinary medicine as well as animal behaviour and psychology are ever evolving sciences. We are moving forward to offer the best possible care to the island animals, to your loved ones. Mind, body and spirit.

Our puppy classes, future desensitisation and adult refresher courses are all held in the climate controlled, secure Newport Pet Doctors branch. And (bonus!) there is free parking on-site. Included with the classes is a tour of the practice, lessons on physical handling and other key elements which take the fear out of the unknown for both you and your pup. Staff found that puppies who graduated from the previous puppy classes held within the practice were calmer and more compliant. This made treating them quicker, easier and more productive. There was no need for unnecessary sedation or calming medications as the dogs were already in a much better mental state. They were already desensitised to the environment and being handled therefore they had less stress. Less stress means your pet's body is able to function properly and heal faster. We as humans know how much stress effects our whole body - but we forget sometimes that our pets are no different. Mind, body and spirit.
